IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
1.The smallest Bryophyta is Zoopsis argentea belonging to class Hepaticopsia which measure only few mm.
2. Largest bryophytes are Dawsonia superba (up to 50 cm in height) and Fontinalis antipyretica (50 --70 cm).
3. Riccia (Hepaticae) was named in honour of florentine politician P.F. Ricci.
4. The name Marchantia was given in honour of Nicolas Marchant, the director of botanical garden Gaston d'orleans, Bloir, France.
5. Pellia was named in honour of Leopoldo Pelli-fabroni, a lawyer of Florence, Italy who was the friend of Raddi, the discovere of Pellia.
6. Funaria is called as common moss or green moss or cord moss.
7. Polytricum is commonly called Hair cap moss.
8. Pogonatum is commonly called Golden maiden-hair moss.
9. Largest archegonium of plant kingdom is present in Funaria.
10. Oldest fossil bryophyte Hepaticites was first described by Walter (1925) from Carboniferous period.
